Telhas Tinto, by Terra d'Alter

Regular price £33.50

This is a superb red from Alentejo, a top wine region in Portugal. It uses the same unusual mix of red and white grapes as the infamous Cote Rotie wines of the Northern Rhone - Syrah and Viognier - and the result is well worth seeking out.

The small blend of Viognier (around 5%) adds a light tough of floral and fragrant notes, that combine amazingly well with the deep dark red fruit flavours from the Syrah. Add the intensity of flavours that growing in Alentejo provides, mix in some barrel and bottle aging, and you've got yourself one awesome red wine.

And because Alentejo doesnn't quite come with the international recognition it derserves, you get pretty good value for money here too. Same complexity of flavours as your Cote Rotie, but without the price tag.

Why we choose it?

We selected this outstanding red in our 'favourites' members drop, and it turned out to be one of our members favourites too!

Telhas

Red and white grapes together? It's actually more common than you think, Champagne being the classic example. In reds, you get added complexity, and with this Telhas an incredible combination of flavours. Pairs well with most meats, and even a good red option for some fish dishes.

Alentejo

Alto Alentejo is in the North part of Alentejo - itself spread over a wide area in Southern Portugal. The regions diverse climates and wine styles make it tricky to understand, which probably hinders widespread international recognition. A region worth delving into
