De Rochebouet Extra Brut Sparkling, by Cave Extreme

Regular price £19.50

In a lot of ways this may seem like a very good and very classical sparkling wine. A la Champagne. It's made using the Champagne style 'traditional method'. It uses two of the three classic French sparkling grapes. And it has some of the classic flavours you'd expect - toasted brioche and almonds. Its even got a very classical French style label. The only thing is...its made just outside Mendoza in Argentina.

You’d be right to think that there’s not too much traditional method sparkling made in that part of the world. This one comes from a tiny operation, a side hustle if you like, from within Bodega Atamisque.

And its a fantastic wine, perfectly balanced with ripe fruits, refreshing citrus, and bready notes from the bottle ageing. And is also outstanding value for money.

Why we chose it?

We think this sparkling stands up to a number of much pricier Champagnes. Quality, great value for money, and tastes delicious.

Cave Extreme

The passion project of Jean-Edouard de Rochebouet, French born and a pioneer of sparkling wine in Argentina. The small operation is run within Bodega Atamisque. Everything is done meticulously, with grape selection, riddling and disgorging all done by hand. The focus very much on quality rather than quantity.

Valle de Uco

The Uco Valley is highest part of the Mendoza wine region, located 50km west of the city at altitudes of up to 1,500m. Its one of the top quality wine areas in Argentina, especially for Malbec. Cool nights allow intense fruit flavours and refreshing acidity to develop in the grapes.
